2008 PRO-HAPKIDO West Coast Championships
Short list of rules
1. Self-Defense Showmanship Rules Short List:
Divisions - All ages, all belts
Participants will demonstrate 3-5 self-defense techniques from the following categories:
Wrist Grabs, Body Grabs, Seated Defense, Ground Defense, Punch Defense and Kick Defense
• Techniques will be scored on a scale of 0-10.
Winner will be determined by highest total score. Participants will be
broken into divisions by age and skill.
• Each participant will be judged individually on
their performance as a defender; participants are allowed to choose
their techniques from any of the defense categories listed above.
• Only Black belts may demonstrate weapons defense or multiple attackers
• Please check Self-Defense Showmanship division breakdown sheet for proper division numbers.
• Self-Defense Showmanship will start at 10am.
2. Pro-Hapkido Stand-up Rules Short List:
Divisions - All ages, all belts
• 3 minute maximum time limit.
• 5min. max time on semi final matches. (Subject to change day of event)
• 1 full point for a punch, kick or knee strike that result in visible shock to the opponent.
• 1/2 point for a punch, kick or knee that connects but does not have enough power to stop the opponent.
• 1 point for fully controlled take downs ( both feet in the air).
• 1/2 point for any take downs.
• NO kicks or strikes to head.
• NO kicking below the belt unless the intent is to sweep.
• NO throws or takedowns that are intended to cause extreme injury.
• Participant who receives the most points within the time limit wins.
• Please check the division breakdown sheet for proper weight divisions.
Equipment requirements for the stand-up rules
All participants must wear proper shin/instep
protectors, gloves with or without fingers (Gloves must have enough
padding to soften hard blows (*1 1/2”), NO MMA GLOVES!), chest pads,
mouth piece and groin protector.
3. Pro-Hapkido Elite (includes ground) Rules Short List:
Divisions- All belts, Ages 14 and up only.
(anyone under 16 will not be matched up against adults).
• 3 minute maximum time limit.
• 5min. max time on semi final matches. (Subject to change day of event)
• 1 full point for a punch, kick or knee strike that result in visible shock to the opponent
• 1/2 point for a punch, kick or knee that connects but does not have enough power to stop the opponent.
• 1 point for fully controlled take downs (both feet in the air).
• 1/2 point for any take downs.
• 1 point for submission/tap out.
• Once both contestants are on the ground, a 45 second time limit goes into effect.
• Once the 45 second time limit is reached both
contestants will be made to stand up and sparring will continue
• NO striking once on the ground.
• NO strikes to head.
• NO kicking below the belt unless the intent is to sweep.
• NO throws or takedowns that are intended to cause extreme injury.
• Participant who receives the most points within the time limit wins.
• Weigh-in between 11am - 1pm
• Please check the division breakdown sheet for proper weight divisions.
Equipment requirements for Pro-Hapkido:
All participants must wear traditional uniform ( sleeves of the uniform
must cover the elbows), proper shin/instep protectors, gloves with or
without fingers (Gloves must have enough padding to soften hard blows
(*1 1/2”), NO MMA GLOVES!), groin protector and mouth piece.
Forearm protectors optional. Female competitors can wear female chest
protectors under uniform. All equipment will be inspected on site.
Additional equipment will be available for purchase at event.

1.Competitions are divided as follows:I.
Individual competition shall normally be between contestants in the
same weight class and rank. When necessary, adjoining weight classes
and ranks may be combined to create a single classification. The WHA does NOT recommend cutting weight as weight classes are often combined.II. There will two rank divisions.Black belt division: Any martial art black belt rank holder awarded by a recognized martial arts organization or club.Under belt division: All martial art ranks below black belt.
